It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Herchel Babb after an extended illness. He was the president and one of the founders of Babb Lumber Company. Herchel was known for his years of hard work and dedication to growing and continuing the family business. He lived and worked with a quiet dignity and integrity. He was loved by all who knew him and is greatly missed.

Herchel Babb, 82, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2007, at a local
health care facility. Herchel was born on July 1, 1924 in Dalton,
Georgia to the late Walter W. Babb and Minnie Mitchell Babb. He was
co-founder of Babb Lumber Company. He was a member of the Ringgold
First Baptist Church for 47 years and a member of the Patterson
Sunday School Class. Mr. Babb served honorably in the United States
Army during World War II and was assigned to the Asiatic Pacific
Theater of operations and also the post war occupation of Japan. He
was preceded in death by an infant son James Marion Babb, sister
Minnie Ruth Richardson, and niece Susan Richardson. Herchel is
survived by his loving wife of 61 years Bonnie Buena Cochran Babb,
sons and daughters-in-law Roger and Sandra Bonner Babb, David and
Lydia Burns Babb of Ringgold, Wayne Babb of Augusta,
Ga, brother,
Jack and Kathryn Hackney Babb of Ringgold, sister, Judy Wood of
Carrolton Ga, grandchildren Jonathan Babb of Boston, MA,
Jillanna (
Chris) Babb - Cheshul; Jeannie( Derek) Taylor; Amanda and Andrew
Babb of Ringgold, 8 great-grandchildren, one great - great
grandchild, nephews Steve and Linda Babb of Chattanooga and Phil and
Melissa Babb of Atlanta, Ga, Ken and Kim Wood of Marietta, GA and
niece Sheila Reed of Carrolton, Ga. Funeral services will be held 10
a.m. Monday at Ringgold First Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Whitaker
and Dr. Kerry Bunn officiating. The body will lie in state at the
church from 9-10 a.m. Monday. A private interment will take place in
West Hills Cemetery, Dalton, Ga. Honorary Pallbearers will be
members of the Mitchell and Patterson Sunday School Classes.
